Help and questions
Can't find your answer? Write to support@aqeem.app. If a prayer time looks wrong, include your city, the date, your calculation method and your mosque's time; it helps us check.
Prayer times
Aqeem calculates the times on your device from your city's coordinates. Nothing is downloaded, so it works offline. Times follow your device's clock and time zone, including daylight saving time.
Calculation methods
Choose one in Settings → Prayer → Calculation method. Choosing a city during setup picks the method usual in that country; you can change it at any time.
| Method | Fajr | Isha | Used mostly in |
|---|---|---|---|
| ISNA | 15° | 15° | North America |
| Muslim World League | 18° | 17° | Europe, parts of Asia |
| Umm al-Qura (Makkah) | 18.5° | 90 min after Maghrib | Saudi Arabia |
| Egyptian | 19.5° | 17.5° | Africa, the Middle East |
| Karachi | 18° | 18° | Pakistan, India, Bangladesh |
Asr and your school
Settings → Prayer → School. Hanafi: Asr begins when an object's shadow is twice its length. Shafi'i, Maliki and Hanbali: when it equals its length.
Matching your mosque
- Time adjustment: move any prayer by up to 30 minutes either way (Settings → Prayer).
- Fajr shown until: isfar (20 minutes before sunrise) or sunrise. This only changes what's shown; Fajr remains valid until sunrise.
- Qiyam (preferred) marks the start of the last third of the night. Isha remains the current prayer until Fajr.
The adhan
- For each prayer, choose Off, At prayer time, or a number of minutes after it starts (Settings → Adhan). Aqeem won't let a delay run too close to the end of the prayer's time.
- Fajr has its own recording.
- Adhan volume is a share of the TV's volume. Aqeem never changes the TV volume, so the adhan can be quieter than the TV, not louder.
- On Samsung TVs, Aqeem pauses what's playing in another app during the adhan and resumes it afterwards. Live TV and HDMI inputs can't be paused.
- Test adhan in Settings plays it right away.
The adhan didn't play
- Open Aqeem once after installing or updating it: that sets up the adhan alarms.
- The TV has to be on. A TV that's off or unplugged can't play it.
- Check that the adhan for that prayer isn't set to Off, and that the adhan volume and TV volume aren't at zero.
Location
Search by name in Settings → Location; add a second word to narrow it down, such as “plainfield ill”. Aqeem first suggests the largest cities in your TV's time zone. The list covers about 34,000 cities and is included in the app.
Hijri calendar
Aqeem uses the Umm al-Qura calendar. If your community's moon sighting differs, use Settings → Calendar → Hijri date adjustment (up to two days either way). By default the Hijri date changes at midnight; you can make it change at Maghrib instead, when the Islamic day begins. The calendar marks Jumu'ah, Ramadan and the White Days (13–15 of each month).
Qur'an
The Arabic text is the Uthmani text from the Tanzil project, shown exactly as published. The English is the Saheeh International translation. Every verse in Aqeem was reviewed and approved before it was included. In Settings → Qur'an you can choose a collection for the Ayah of the Day, such as patience, gratitude or mercy.
More questions
Is Aqeem free?

Will Aqeem come to my TV brand?
Samsung comes first, then Android TV, Google TV and Fire TV. Other TV brands are planned. Tell us which TV you have.
Is there a phone app?
Yes, it's planned: prayer times for where you are, the Qibla direction and adhan notifications, using the same prayer engine as the TV app.
